The Franciscan Institute for Personal and Family Development is the corporate ministry of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in St. Lucia, Grenada and Trinidad & Tobago. Established in 2001, the Institute is dedicated to promoting a culture of peace, where right relationships and community are nurtured in the Franciscan tradition of compassion, moderation, simplicity, and reverence for all.
Programs facilitate the psycho-spiritual development of youth, adults and families in order to empower them to live more holistic lives. The Franciscan Institute assists program participants to improve their quality of life by teaching nonviolent ways of relating to self, others and creation.
In the name of the Institute, the sisters in the Caribbean in collaboration with other sisters of the province, SSM associates, and lay professionals with particular skills are committed to providing the most effective programs to meet the ongoing needs of Caribbean families, youth and organizations that serve a similar purpose. The Institute offers residential programs at its campus site located on the Island of St. Lucia.
